Buone Feste!!

Doodles

...From my lined-sketchbook

If there's something good from summer vacation is the fact that you can relax and find much more time to practise at drawing, despite the high temperature.

Romance at the ice cream bar

Oh, where's my head?

I slowly begin to remember...no worry, readers: I've been on a loooong period of holidays and I was enjoying the time far away from the computer! but since he was missing me too much, I found the time to draw, scan and color this last piece with Milo and Diana Beagle! Aren't they sweet togheter at the ice-cream bar ?

Actually I must say that while sketching this one, I was fascinated by the bars and coffee houses that were so widely famous during the periods of the 50's and 60's, with the jukebox's music a go-go (ouch, it was preety hard to do that, I next time I should find some good references) and that many of us learnt at knowing through shows such as Happy Days.

At least Diana found a sweet way to score the old Milo!

I know I missed the wide skirt of the girls and the checked floor of the bar, in order to be "typically 50's style", but I'm sure I'll be enthusiast to draw another piece in the future inspired to this atmosphere! In return I chose sweet, creamy and pastel shades to color the picture;

Beachy attitude

Summer has finally come: temperature is preeety hot outside and everybody only wish to go on vacation in exotic places, where sun bathing and having fun...unfortunately for most of them this is only a mirage at the moment (ihih...) due to exahusting exams or pile of work still waiting to be done...

Let's cheer up with this summerish and warm pen- sketch of Milo and Diana enjoying their hoilidays on the beach...and then someone's even claims they do a dog-life?! what a luck!!

Milo's looking for the perfect wave: what a beach boy!

Romantic Country Style All Around

Enter in a world of tenderness and creativity with Como Color and Marzia's decoupage

This graphic was designed in 2006 ( one of my first serious works!) for a artistic shop which sells art material and organizes courses to teach new art techniques, like decoupage and country painting;

The background was taken from a photo texture of a craqluè work (it's an artistic technique which allows objects to look particularly vintage and with wrinkles), then I projected the various buttons and banners according to a romantic country style: wooded buttons and sunflowers all around;

Secret Agents Parody

One of my latest artwork featuring Milo & Diana inspired from the movies of James Bond

this one was entirely done with crayons and caran-d'ache pastels, yeah: recently I re-discovered the pleasure of handcoloring, since I hadn't so much time at using the computer!
Hope that with the summer time coming I'll reach to find the time to upload more interesting stuff.

A New Milo and Diana Art

I have to spend this post during this busy period to show you the work that Martin - a dear artsy friend of mine- did for a collaboration!

what I like most of this new piece? the style of Martin is immediately recognizable, and I appreciated a lot the unique way he rendered our beaglelicious couple; secondly the coloring: very plan and simple, so that it exalts more the romantic composition of the pose!

And what about the white and big smiles of Milo and Diana? they are contagious! another great piece for the collection: thank you very much!

Maestro Bunny and Jazz Runner

A Personal Sketch in which I try to emulate Chuck Jones' style with two of his greatest charachters, this time in a inedited way according to New Orleans' official music!

Actually it was made when the computer was loading too many files, so it had a crush...while waiting ( and avoid to get angry and to not make further mess!!), I found a piece of paper and a pen, so I began inking...this is the result, and I was preety fair of it to decide to scan it;

Yes, listening to this kind of music for so long really inspired me...in particular this one

ZzzZzz...La Bella Abbandonata!!

Old comic work I did in the summer of 2007...the story is incomplete here, at the moment it misses two sheets... going to scan them as I'll get to catch them in the Forest of the Messy Papers!

First Papino&Diana Fan Art

Admire this lovely drawing done by a dear artsy friend of mine! It shows (...guess who...) yeah, Milo and Diana, and Lykaios-Garou couldn't choice a better situation to interpret the relationship between Papino and his Diana;

As you can see, Papino's attention is deviated, as usual, on an old flame of his...food!!
I just enjoyed both Milo's and Diana's expressions... Lykaios actually did a fine job at drawing my charachters on her own style!

Ol' Papino, Food is just his reason to live...but what about Diana?!

Notice nothing in common with Hello Spank?

Anyone needs to drees?

Evidently that day I hadn't nothing better to do than this... and oh, I even found a robust and frendly model who wore my creation at the end!

If you are wondering how this craze happen, the word is just one: disney.com

In the Shopping section I had the chance to test a customization editor in order to personalise T-shirts, calendars, mugs and so on... with a particular picture, and than order it via mail!
My impression: this programm really runs, it's useful and practicall, the idea at the base is simple but creative... everyone can customize an item according to everything... so why not play on it for while?

It took just save a picture of Mickey Mouse and add in the editor another pic of mine, than arrange dimensions, colors, writes... just choose the model of shirt you want, and at the end see the final work realised, and ready to be worn like a must-have wear of the latest spring/summer collection;

Wonder who's going to buy this stuff...? xD I know some folks who would do it for sure!

This is going to daze you...

This sketch astonished my mind too...but how couldn't it? Perhaps is the plain art of Tom McKimson or something else? Don't know actually, but I had to post this sketch here... finally the secret around Bugs Bunny's name is revealed...and I warmly invite you to follow the rest of the story on Thad K's blog

I just love too much those kinds of comic stories, in particular when they are preety old and are connected to such well-known cartoon charachters, like George Washington Bunny;

First of all, as many will note, those stories are totally at the opposite from the cartoons we used to watch: the charachters react in a different way facing different situations, most of them from "everyday life", and if those plots were going to being animated, they just would result disconnected from the spirit of the original cartoon;

Secondly: those are a piece of history! by studying them, we can have a general vision of how life style in the 40's, 50's and so on was... note that in many of these comic books, the intent of the authors was to create "educative but also fun" material, since the readers of them were young people...

How is evident the recall to the american history (in this case, George Washington) combined with a vein of genuine of semi-humorless comic comedy (a naive Baby Bugs as never seen)? in few words...

Patriotism + Exchange Situation of the Main Charachter= a plot for a 1945's Bugs Bunny Story

I'd write a lot about this issue, despite I'm not so expert about it, but it'd be good if more old style comic stories with those charachters would be uploaded on the web for the Joy of us comic-fans! in the Meanwhile, thank you to all the great people who share these treasures!

Where the Innocence has gone?

Readers, first of all, before to begin reading this post, you've to dip into the right atmosphere!
Well, let's begin with this Youtube video...

Palm Town TV Tune

Many of you surely will think about the gone childhood as listening back this unfamous TV Theme or watching this video: who reminds Palm Town?

It's a 80's japanese cartoon series that had a good success: here in Italy -where it is still widely known thanks to the recent morning rerun- there was a big marketing strategy with comic books, puppets and other gadgets in order to get on fire the spirits of the kids of 1989 to watch it.
Basically, the series is about the adventures of a group of kids in a colorful and lively sea city - the Palm Town of the title- where all the inhabitants are animals; So, wonder why does it catch my interest?

I've never particularly been fond of japanese anime and cartoons, but I must admit that between the News and the pleasant sensation of waking up, there's nothing better to watch this kiddie TV show just for its Naivety and for the simple fact of watching it!
After two weeks of watching it every morning, the fever of Palm Town infected me too, you can see it clearly in those doodles...

And my New "craze" for this cartoon hasn't stopped...this is the last work!

Yes, I know you wouldn't expected so...the watchers of the show surely recognize in the Pin Up done under my sign the doggie girl of Palm Town who had fun hang out with her Rabbit Friend and wore pink dresses and red ribbons...

Where the innocence and the candour of Lorry (that's the name of this obscure charachter) has gone??

Hope not so much far from her beloved town! first of all, the idea of my doodle was to imagine this charachter 13 years later, in other words as she would grow up, and secondly, she's done according my drawing style! Even more I noticed, by browsing the web, that there isn't so much about this charachter...so here you are: do you still prefer the child-version of Lorry or her current one?

ah, one last thing: the beach on the back ground is not Real Palm Town, just a simple Beach!

Time Won't wait...

For the Italian Folks and Europeans too , on Satudrady, march 28th, remind to set your clocks ahead one hour!

I just loved this old picture of a delicious 60's style soubrette taken from the well-known web site Cartoon Brew, so I think it was a good excuse to post it on my humble blog!

the story of the Duo

This is the last picture I worked on during this period, eh...that's preety busy between study, work and...a decayed teeth that I've to take away in those period!

Anyway here I tried to make a simple and classical art-work for a couple of original charachters I inventing by doodling on my sketchbook; Many of you surely had seen other drawings featuring those two doggies, Diana and Milo, here or at this link

Well, the news here is that those charachters are not totally invented: they actually exist!

-Whaaat? (imagine the wondering expression of many of you readers) and yeah, I confirm one more time: I must say thank you to the amazing beagle dog Milo who gave me the inspiration for drawing his charachter

About Diana, she's the 3-years old dog of a friend of mine, and she's a good pal of Milo!
I don't think she'd be angry if I sketch her as a-sort of "girl" of Milo, while in reality they're simple good friends who share the passion for sniffing around the neighourhood and the love for good food, as you can see in the following picture!
